The Walking Challenge 2025 was held

A total of 139 people participated, including 83 students and 56 faculty and staff members. Of these participants, 63 achieved the recommended goal of 8,000 steps or more per day, which is considered effective for maintaining and improving health.

The Top 3 step rankings at Gifu University were as follows:

Many participants shared positive feedback, such as:
“I usually don’t exercise much, but this program helped me develop a habit of walking,”
“I was able to stay motivated and focus on my health,”
“I’ve continued walking even after the event ended,” and
“I would definitely like to participate again next time.”

We will continue to support everyone’s efforts to maintain and improve their health. Let’s work together to stay healthy!

The Walking Challenge has been held nationwide since 2018. In this program, participants from universities across Japan collectively aim to walk the equivalent distance of 2.5 round trips from the Earth to the Moon over the course of one month.

This year saw a record-high total of 8,515 participants nationwide. Approximately half of them—4,204 participants—achieved the health guideline of an average of 8,000 steps per day (for group participants, the average step count per group was used). The total number of steps taken nationwide reached 1.8 billion, which corresponds to roughly two round trips to the Moon when calculated using an average step length of 80 cm.
